For Philippine Independence Day, New Era launches a three-piece cap collection inspired by the country’s natural beauty
“Perlas ng Silangan” isn’t just a lyric in our National Anthem. Over the years, the moniker (translated into Pearl of the Orient) has been interpreted as a canvas of representation and local creativity. From contemporary takes on traditional fashion like the barong and terno that feature details made with the South Sea Pearl, the name has also inspired communities in fine arts across galleries and stages around the world.
This time around, it takes on a different identity as an accessory that’s seen its own fair share of transformations across cultures that have worn it. In celebration of Philippine Independence Day, New Era launches its version of Perlas ng Silangan through a three-piece ensemble of caps. Details embedded within the collection feature a reimagination of New Era’s initials with the flag’s color palette, blending hues of red, blue, and gold into a scripted “NE” emblem on the cap’s crown, turning patriotic codes into details of contemporary streetwear.
The taklobo (known as the Philippine giant clam) becomes the main emblem that houses New Era’s signature flag logo, decorated in wreaths of Nilad leaves, which are a subspecies of mangrove shrubs from which Manila got its name.
In the campaign, models were dressed in classic barong and baro’t saya ensembles that parallel the headpieces’ contemporary approach to the Philippines flag’s red and blue colors. Each cap also comes embroidered with details in monochromatic threads along their side panels, and is topped with a scripted “PH” detail stylized in the brand’s typography.
