There’s absolutely nothing like a showstopping red-carpet moment, and we were treated to a wealth of them at the 2025 Met Gala. There was plenty to dissect on social media from the night, which was organized to celebrate The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring 2025 Costume Institute exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

The night’s Tailored for You dress code brought out some genuinely inspiring creativity from Met Gala attendees, and there was plenty of night-of gossip to go around; below, find the very best moments from the Met Gala 2025 red carpet—and if you’d like to revisit it all, rewatch the Vogue livestream here.

There is singing and dancing!

Soon after the red carpet opened, the Silk & Sound choir performed a rousing rendition of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” for guests and onlookers—getting the night off to a high-spirited start.

Rihanna debuts baby bump No. 3

It wouldn’t be a Met Gala (or a Super Bowl or any other major celebrity-forward occasion) without a surprise reveal from Rihanna, and on the first Monday in May, the singer hit the red carpet in a bump-baring suit skirt and broad-brim hat by Marc Jacobs. Major mazel tovs to Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, though now the question is: Will they go with another R name for their new baby, to join sons Riot and RZA?

A jumpsuit-and-helmet-clad Damson Idris does a dramatic outfit reveal

There’s nothing like a big Met Gala entrance (remember Lady Gaga’s in 2019?), and that’s exactly what Snowfall star Damson Idris pulled off when he arrived on the blue carpet in a jumpsuit and helmet that nodded to his upcoming movie F1. Idris required a bit of an assist to show off the deep oxblood suit he wore underneath, and his outfit’s sense of fun and pageantry was perfect for the occasion.

Diana Ross shows up trailing an 18-foot train

I mean, if you were a musical legend on the level of Diana Ross, what would you wear to the Met Gala, if not a sweeping crystal and beaded gown featuring an 18-foot train embroidered with the names of your children and grandchildren? Absolutely iconic and very fitting (not to mention fitted).

Ayo Edebiri pays tribute to her dad’s dandy style

The star of The Bear brought the heat for her second Met Gala in a shirtdress and tailcoat courtesy of Ferragamo creative director Maximilian Davis, inspired by the style of a particularly important man in Edebiri’s life: her dad. “He’s one of the dandiest men I know, whether he’s power-clashing to go to the office or in traditional Edo clothes at the Emmys with me,” Edebiri told Vogue. “He got married to my mom in leather trousers and tuxedo tails, which is pretty iconic.”

Chappell Roan makes her Met Gala debut

It’s quite a long road from the small town of Willard, Missouri, to the storied steps of the Met Gala, but pop singer Chappell Roan officially arrived on Monday night in a Pat McGrath beauty look and glittery patchwork pink suit and matching feathered cape sourced for her by Wicked costume designer Paul Tazewell (from eBay, no less). Clearly, it’s all rise and no fall for this Midwest princess!

Zendaya goes full Biance Jagger

Never bet against Zendaya when it comes to shutting down the red (or blue) carpet, which is exactly what the Challengers star did at the 2025 Met Gala. She wore a custom white Louis Vuitton zoot suit by Pharrell Williams, styled for her by Law Roach. Bianca Jagger’s famous Yves Saint Laurent wedding suit energy, but make it pants!

The White Lotus cast reunites (sort of)

Am I desperate to know what’s really going on between The White Lotus season three stars Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins? Of course. Did I get any closer to understanding the truth at the 2025 Met Gala? No, not really, as Wood and Goggins didn’t really spend any time together (that we saw evidence of, at least). But at least we got some cute pictures of Wood and her fellow White Lotus costar Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Stranger Things stars Maya Hawke and Sadie Sink get in on the cast-reunion fun

It’s always nice to bump into a colleague somewhere unexpected, whether it’s the hair-tie aisle at Duane Reade (my reality) or the blue carpet at the 2025 Met Gala. The latter is where Maya Hawke and Sadie Sink from Stranger Things happened to meet up for a girls night on the first Monday in May.

André 3000 casually shows up with a grand piano on his back

When it comes to the Met Gala, it’s always best to come prepared, which is why it makes perfect sense that rapper, singer-songwriter, OutKast alum, and Benji Bixby designer André 3000’s look involved a must for any truly dedicated musician: a full-on grand piano. André put the look together alongside superstylist Law Roach and Burberry chief creative officer Daniel Lee, but the piano idea was all him.

Whoopi Goldberg stuns in sequins—350,000 of them, to be exact

It took Thom Browne’s team a cool 7,700 hours to put together Whoopi Goldberg’s perfectly tailored, black-and-white, femme-meets-masc Met Gala outfit, and it was clearly time well spent, given how epic Goldberg looked in her floor-length dress, overcoat, patent-leather boots, and black top hat.

Everyone forgets their pants

Okay, not everyone, but it can’t be disputed that pantsless dressing made its triumphant return at the 2025 Met Gala, with everyone from Sabrina Carpenter to Lisa to Hailey Bieber freeing the leg on the blue carpet. Hey, if you’ve got ’em, flaunt ’em!

Doja Cat (re)commits to the fabulous-feline bit

Photo: Getty Images

Doja Cat is no stranger to a paws-forward theme at the Met Gala; in 2023, she went full cat mode for an ode to Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved Choupette. This year she varied the theme on the red carpet in a structured pinstripe bodysuit by Marc Jacobs, livened up with an ocelot print. (Ocelots are big cats native to the Americas, in case you weren’t aware.) Purr!
