With spring just a month away, the Fall 2023 shows have just started to kick off in New York. Though this round of collections is regarded as less ostentatious than the preceding Haute Couture and fashion week in September, our first glimpse at the street style this week tells us that this season is going to be anything but boring.

As far as the early collections go, black is the name of the game on the catwalk this Fashion Week. Rodarte debuted a vampy lineup of looks for their return to the circuit. Models walked out in dresses with bell sleeves, Victorian details, and sleek long hair; reminiscent of goth mother Morticia Addams.

Christian Siriano showcased a black-and-white range of looks that allude to Hollywood style icon Audrey Hepburn. “We’re calling it Audrey Hepburn’s rose garden, but at midnight or 2 a.m. So it’s a little darker, a little sexier,” the designer said of his collection, which fused feminine shapes from the 1950s with neat tailoring, bringing a modernity to their silhouettes.

Meanwhile, Prabal Gurung took to the future, fusing black satin and leather with metallics and warm tones. The designer played with blown-up prints of butterfly wings and layered fabrics to create texture and bring to life his bold lines.

Outside the runway, however, the New York fashion week goers decided to bring maximalism and color to the final days of winter. Fashion photographer Selwyn Tungol captures each attendee at their best. Bright pastels, brocades, furs, and knits were all over the streets outside the designer’s shows. Vogue China editor-in-chief Margaret Zhang stepped out in her now signature blue hair and a glossy black coat trimmed with a pink collar, which she wore over layered sparkling animal prints.

Fresh from her Bling Empire: New York debut, stylist and blogger Tina Leung appeared in various shades of green, from her mint-hued hair to her three-piece knit ensemble, and down to her shamrock green heels.

Statement accessories likewise proved prominent, from exaggerated bijoux earrings to oversized pearls—even Venetian masks.

Though the season has just begun, it’s looking to be a stylish one to watch.
