Some of the movie world’s biggest names are once again stalking La Croisette at the Cannes Film Festival, and they are bringing enough sparkle to match their personal star power.
Color is a theme. Julia Garner looked a green goddess in emerald earrings and a matching gown by Gucci, and Uma Thurman channeled ’90s minimalism and grown-up glamour with a wide ruby and diamond choker by Chopard that matched the scarlet of her Dior Haute Couture cape. Alessandra Ambrosio’s striking line necklace was an ombré effect of multicolored spinels by Pomellato. Fan Bingbing wore bright green, stonking great emeralds that stood out against her perfectly pale complexion and tiger and bamboo-themed gown, and Helen Mirren went for colorless Bulgari diamonds to offset her new blue rinse and matching dress.
Manu Rios meanwhile, who stars alongside Pedro Pascal in Pedro Almodóvar’s gay western, Strange Way of Life, showed the women a thing or two about making a simple but arresting statement with jewelry. He paired an open-neck, sheer shirt by Saint Laurent with a wide chain link necklace by Cartier. The Weeknd meanwhile looked the part for the premiere of The Idol in a Piaget white and yellow diamond women’s watch, and Adrian Brody paired his classic tux with a striking modern brooch by Elsa Jin.
There have been white diamonds aplenty, naturally, but what has stood out are some of the more unexpected choices. Iris Law resisted the red carpet temptation of major sparkle with her choice of giant gold hoops, and Scarlett Johansson did wear diamonds but mixed her high glam David Yurman drops with multiple daywear piercings. Native American actor Lily Gladstone has made a breakthrough both in her Oscar-tipped starring role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and on the red carpet with incredible jewelry choices by Native American designers, including Jamie Okuma.
