Inside Vogue Threads: Paris 2024, A Celebration That Weaves Philippine Fashion, Art, and Culture into the World

For its anniversary event at the French capital, Vogue Philippines celebrated among Filipino trailblazers, celebrities, and industry professionals honoring the country’s heritage

Threads, at their core, are fine strands of fabric woven or stitched together to form textiles and garments. Through the lens of Vogue Philippines, these strings symbolize connections and continuity. They represent the intricate relationships and histories that bind the Filipino community, both within the motherland and across the global stage.

In Paris, this symbolism is present at Vogue Philippines’ anniversary gala, bringing together an eclectic mix of fashion, art, and culture. The event marks an important milestone for the magazine, signifying its growing presence and influence in the global fashion industry.

“We continue to write, with each issue, a love letter to our Archipelago. If it has not been apparent enough, we are boundless in our pride for our rich heritage,” says Vogue Philippines editor-in-chief Bea Valdes.

Held in the square of Palais Galliera, also known as the “museum of fashion and fashion history,” its halls were decorated with a mix of contemporary and Filipino elements. The tables, draped in black, were decorated with red florals and Maison de L’Asie fragrance sheets of green tea, bergamot, coconut, and vetiver.

Surrounding the venue are maquettes showcasing the works of 23 Filipino designers including Ivarluski Aseron, Vania Romoff, Carl Jan Cruz, and Mich Dulce. Presented by Security Bank and co-chaired by Gino Gonzales with creative consultant Jojie Lloren, celebrating the ingenuity and creativity of Filipino fashion designers across the world. Vogue Threads was more than just an anniversary celebration; it also highlights Filipino creativity on a global platform featuring local talent and international partnership.

The maquettes, miniature dress forms handcrafted in Palawan, were flown from Manila to Paris via AirSpeed.

As Valdes eloquently put it, “We continue to write, with each issue, a love letter to our Archipelago. If it has not been apparent enough, we are boundless in our pride for our rich heritage. From the scope and scale of our work, we have discovered that what makes us most unique, is often that which connects us all.”
