All in A Day’s Work: Hillary Taymour Transforms a Dress from Anna Wintour’s Closet at Forces of Fashion

Collina Strada’s Hillary Taymour relocated her studio to One World Trade Center for the 2023 Forces of Fashion held today in the Vogue offices. Racks of clothes, casting boards, a sewing machine, artwork, and even the designer’s dog Powie were in residence. The task, remaking look 42 from her spring 2024 collection—a basque corset dress with draped train—using clothes from Vogue editors’ closets. Taymour ended up transforming one of Anna Wintour’s striped dresses, overdying it to a deep gray and reworking it into something romantic yet empowering. One of the things she wanted to accomplish with her latest collection was female-friendly going-out options. “I want it to be like, ‘I’m going to the party, but I’m also sitting on the couch and I don’t care,’” she told Laia Garcia-Furtado, who reviewed the show. Taymour’s one-of-a-kind upcycled Forces of Fashion confection is a go-anywhere-in-style look worth celebrating.
