Together with Galderma Aesthetics, the doctor-duo of The Aivee Clinic reflects on how there’s beauty in embracing and celebrating different cultures
Beyond leading a beauty brand, travel is a recurring theme in the lives of Drs. Aivee Teo and Z Teo. Their family excursions and international trainings span outings to Dr. Z’s home country of Singapore to the coast of Phuket, Thailand to the panoramic floral fields of Shikisai-no-oka Biei in Japan to exploring the greenery of Mayfair, London. For their family of five, it’s during these trips overseas where they appreciate the beauty of nature, culture, and people.
Paris is no different, albeit, this time around for the Teos. From Bangkok, the couple flew to The City of Lights with Galderma Aesthetics to be a part of Vogue Threads, the second anniversary gala of Vogue Philippines where art, fashion, and Filipino culture are woven together in the historic Palais Galliera in Avenue Pierre.
According to Galderma Aesthetics, their attendance at the gala signifies their “commitment to creativity and innovation in aesthetics.” They believe that the use of advanced skin technology, it’ll empower Filipinos to be confident while “enhancing their innate beauty.”
“Being part of this event not only honors our heritage but also showcases the vibrancy and creativity that Filipinos bring to the world,” shares Dr. Aivee, who toured the exhibit of 23 Filipino designers translated into maquettes, co-chaired and curated by Gino Gonzales.
Aesthetics in the fashion and beauty industry, for the doctor couple, is more than skin deep; it is an expression of identity, culture, and creativity. Dr. Z, who hails from Singapore, expresses his admiration for Filipino culture, its richness and how it translates to art, fashion, and beauty.
“Being part of this event allows me to witness firsthand how Filipino creativity resonates globally, and it’s an honor to support this cultural exchange,” he states, highlighting the global impact of Filipino aesthetics. He continues, “It’s also a reminder that, regardless of where we’re from, there’s beauty in embracing and celebrating different cultures.”
As The Aivee Clinic celebrates its 15th year in the Philippines, and even branching out to Dr. Z’s homeland of Singapore, the doctor-duo reflects on what makes Filipino culture, particularly in the realm of beauty unique.
“Filipino beauty traditions are deeply rooted in natural, holistic approaches to self-care, blending indigenous wisdom with cultural practices that have been passed down through generations,” explains Dr. Aivee, adding that these traditions are rooted in a respect for what is natural and sustainable.
How does The Aivee Clinic fit in this landscape of shaping Filipino beauty onto a global scale? For the president and co-founder of her eponymous clinic, she says it’s all about collaboration and participation in international conferences, trainings, and joint research projects with reputable institutions. These investments enhance the potential for discoveries, such as utilizing collagen and elastin production through a process called “regenerative biostimulator.”
She believes that Filipino dermatologists “have a unique understanding of tropical skin conditions and Asian skin, which can contribute valuable insights to the global skincare community.” Dr. Aivee further underscores this importance by blending new technology with our indigenous ingredients. “[The Aivee Clinic] is about creating something new that highlights the Filipino rich heritage while addressing modern skincare needs.”
