“Filipino craft stands out due to the unique blend of dedication, talent, and skills that Filipinos naturally possess.”
Designer Seph Bagasao returns to fundamentals that endure with his piece for Vogue Threads.
Constructed from muslin, the most basic fabric in Seph Bagasao‘s atelier, “Fragments of Time” features abstract forms and shapes in an overlay of delicate organza, accentuated by loose running stitches and vibrant electric blue beads, all meticulously hand-sewn.
Bagasao’s design process reflects his commitment to ethical practices in fashion. “Our brand wants to create beauty with the intent of making things that can last a long time,” the designer says. The use of readily available materials such as muslin speaks to this philosophy of responsible design, ensuring that each piece resonates with emotion and intention, with the designer noting that over 100 minutes of handiwork were devoted to this creation.
“We’re drawing inspiration from the artisans and showcasing their craftsmanship in the piece we’re creating,” Bagasao says. “Filipino craft stands out due to our unique blend of dedication and talent,” His eponymous label continues to celebrate the rich heritage of the Philippines by creating pieces that not only embody beauty but also convey a deeper message about artistry and conscious choices in the fashion industry.
On its second anniversary, Vogue Philippines invites homegrown and global creatives to Vogue Threads, an experience that weaves Philippine culture, creativity, and community into the world. Its inaugural edition celebrates Filipino artistry and heritage, through an exhibit featuring the works of designers from the islands of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
