The color red immediately conjures images of retro Hollywood glamour or a Parisian red lip. Perhaps even the unique Pantone color of Valentino Red comes to mind. The fiery hue is synonymous with allure, passion, and desire. In fashion, entire collections have been created as an homage to the statement-making hue. Christian Louboutin’s iconic red-bottom heels are known to be one of the ultimate luxury status symbols. Take, Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy’s 2017 ready-to-wear collection which celebrated the creative director in various silhouettes in vivid reds. From head-to-toe, models walked the catwalk in form-fitting shapes with ruffles, pleats, and lace details in a “Givenchy Red.”
If we’re taking cues from designers, this Fall/Winter season will see even more crimson. On the runway, Versace presented a scarlet maximalist puffer for its Milan Fashion Week collection. Meanwhile, at the core of Dolce & Gabbana’s metaversal show sashayed ruby-colored patent dresses with gigot sleeves.
