The collection sees the maison’s longtime women’s artistic director move away from his signature structured silhouettes in favor of fluid tailoring and featherweight fabrics.
In the Cour Carrée du Louvre, an airfield featuring green Damier-stamped flying cars set the scene for Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2027. The set juxtaposed classical architecture with retro-futuristic flight. A classic Nicolas Ghesquière spectacle with a surprising pivot: the creative directorCreative DirectorThe person who sets the overall visual vision of a fashion house, publication, or campaign and guides designers, photographers, and stylists toward it. A creative director's influence shapes collections, imagery,Go to Creative Director Glossary abandoned his signature rigid, armor-like silhouettes to embrace a sense of weightlessness and ergonomic ease.
As the show notes stated, the collection focused on “a notion of design fundamentally shaped by the conditions, capabilities and movement of the human body… Garments are not moulded, but rather mould to the body.”
Internal layers were stripped away through a process of reduction and streamlining. Traditional tailoring gave way to triple-composite chiffons, silk-cashmere scarf fabrics, and featherweight wools engineered for ease.
The lineup favored soft, unconstructed tailoringTailoringThe craft of cutting, shaping, and sewing structured garments such as suits, blazers, and trousers to fit the body precisely. Good tailoring relies on skilled pattern work and fine finishing,Go to Tailoring Glossary and fluid trousers alongside major bag debuts: the sleek, elongated Rivoli, poised for commercial success, and my personal favorite, the Pochette Lettre—a chic, versatile 3D envelope bag with a gold chain.
The garment standouts were an embroidered printed dress with a cascading back layered over fluid trousers, a fully beaded crochet tank that delivered visual density without physical weight, and ultralight wool blazers that defined effortless luxury.
For tropical markets like the Philippines, these featherweight, breathable pieces offer a welcome shift from heavy runway layering, with relaxed silhouettes that flatter a range of body types.
I admire Ghesquière for dismantling his established signatures to explore softness. Yet, despite the compelling premise, the looks lacked the sharp, breathtaking punch of his structural work at its best. The collection was undeniably more wearable, but perhaps felt almost too tame for such a radical shift in philosophy.
