The Icelandic-Chinese artist calls the partnership with the Brooklyn-based brand the “collection of my dreams.”
At her Bewitched: The Goddess Tour in Manila last September, her fans, who call themselves “Lauvers” gathered in a sea of dreamlike puffy dresses and hair adorned with bows to watch Icelandic and Chinese artist Laufey. One online user jokingly notes, “I’m not sure if we’ve attended a Laufey concert or a prom.”
The artist, known for her ethereal voice, modern jazz sensibilities, and a recognizable soft and feminine visual aesthetic, has found a new way to express her artistry: a jewelry collaboration with Catbird. For the collection, the Grammy-winning musician has partnered with the Brooklyn-based brand to release a collection that draws on her heritage and personal style, offering fans a glimpse into her world in a new medium.
“I designed the 6 piece jewelry collection of my dreams with @catbirdnyc — I made it for you, and for me,” Laufey writes on Instagram. “I hope this is a way to wear your story close.”
Launched on Thursday, October 17th, the Catbird x Laufey collection features six designs: four charms and two rings in solid 14k gold and sterling silver, with prices starting at $58. Catbird, celebrated for its delicate, everyday fine jewelry, has crafted each piece in its Brooklyn studio, using over 95% recycled gold and diamonds.
Laufey’s whimsical, dreamlike aesthetic shines through in every design. “The gold bunnies of my childhood, a sea of bows before me, shades of a blue velvet curtain, and rings for heartbreak and joy. Plus one very special heart for the Lauvers,” the artist writes, explaining each piece in the collection. “Each piece is made with so much love, and available in 100% recycled gold or sterling silver.”
The collection includes a bunny charm to honor her Chinese heritage and the Year of the Rabbit, while a ribbon charm nods to her signature accessory, one beloved by her fans. The framed heart charm, detailed with F-holes, reflects her classical cello training, blending musical references with elegant design. The collection also includes a cocktail ring featuring Lavender Chalcedony, a translucent gemstone said to transform melancholy into joy.
