Katarina Rodriguez On the Art of Building a Wardrobe

The model-beauty queen held a styling session using SM Woman’s collection to show how pieces can be mixed and matched in multiple ways.

A piece of clothing may be good, but it needs to be more than that for Katarina Rodriguez to consider it for her closet. Whether it’s basic staples or printed pieces, her number one rule is to make sure that she gets ROI on each piece. They must be wearable in multiple ways and for multiple occasions.

Sharing all her tips on how to look put together, the model and beauty queen held a styling session using pieces from SM Woman at SM Aura Premier. The collection ranges from crisp silhouettes to elevated basics in earthy tones. As she curates her wardrobe, Rodriguez shares her philosophy that while it’s great to follow trends, it’s also better to have clothes that are classic.

“I would say that a lot of SM Woman’s pieces are like pieces that you can have in your closet. They have such a wide range of pieces to choose from,” she says. Rodriguez also encourages shoppers to try different garments and explore what works for them.

Rodriguez’s second and third rules are to ensure that the style is something that her daughter could wear one day and that can fit anywhere, regardless of the place. “Like this dress I’m wearing, you can wear it in summer, but it’s [also] a fall-autumn dress. So it’s the versatility in terms of how you wear the pieces, that’s really important. And I think that’s what’s great with SM Woman is that they have a lot of basic pieces that are timeless,” she explains.

During the styling session, Rodriguez demonstrated how she wears a piece in different ways by matching it with other pieces. One example was a satin skirt that can be worn in both formal and casual settings. Rodriguez pulled it up to show that it can be worn as a dress, then pulled it down while pairing it with a white button-down. “It’s (the skirt) very feminine. I love to always have that feminine touch.”

So Rodriguez advises that, first, you become familiar with the silhouettes that look good on your body type. “I think it’s very important because the fit of clothes is different on every body. Trying different silhouettes and also colors is also important in knowing what really suits you.”
