It started not with a bang but a fire. With only aluminum surviving the blaze in their factory in the 1930s, the Morszecks, led by patriarch Paul, transformed their wooden luggage (crafted since the 1890s under the name Görtz & Morszeck) into durable, grooved metallic cases now known today as Rimowa’s Original Collection.
Inspired by the early days of aviation, the German brand is a familiar figure in travel with many reiterations from the numerous collaborations of its Original Suitcase and Classic Suitcase collections with brands such as Supreme, Off-White, and Dior. Its latest spinoff is more compact, versatile, and easy to travel with, The Original Bag.
From New York to London and then to Lisbon, the latest campaign of Rimowa, directed by Jordan Hemingway, features rapper Central Cee, supermodel Liu Wen, journalist and creative director IB Kamara, and photographer Larissa Hofmann. The 60-second video shows a glimpse of their lives alongside visuals of metropolitan life, all while carrying the purse throughout the entire day.
The short film begins with a collection of urban scenes, all set to the tune of American rock band The Strokes’ “Last Nite.” The clip shifts to Central Cee picking up the black version of the bag as he steps out of a building. The focus then moves to Hoffman amidst a bustling crowd of daytime commuters. As night falls, Kamara is shown riding the train in Lisbon, sporting The Original Bag across his shoulder, while Wen transitions from an intimate dinner with friends to a solitary night walk.
