Ever since Olivia Rodrigo made her music debut during the pandemic, she has never taken that momentum for granted and has continued to pursue her passion for music. Grammys? Check. This year, she’s stepping beyond the stage to launch Daisy Chain Fields, her very own music festival.
Daisy Chain Fields is a single-day, all-female music festival founded by Olivia and inspired by the ’90s-era Lilith Fair, a groundbreaking North American concert tour and music festival that featured an all-female lineup of solo artists and women-led bands from 1997 to 1999, with a revival in 2010. The festival will make its debut on August 29 at Great Park Live in California.
Just like the singer-songwriter that she is, Olivia takes inspiration seriously. When she appeared as an interviewed artist in the official Lilith Fair film and expressed her admiration for the cause, those same feelings extended to her current festival. Lilith Fair co-founder Sarah McLachlan is among the guest artists who will be appearing at Daisy Chain Fields, along with Stevie Nicks and Karen O.
Well, if you follow Olivia closely and admire her taste beyond music, it isn’t surprising why Daisy Chain Fields is gaining traction with her as the curator. As the headliner, she will also be joined by a list of familiar names in the industry: Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, Katseye, Garbage, Santigold, The Breeders, Rachel Chinouriri, Die Spitz, Quiet Light, Not for Radio, and Eli.
The Livies also have something to look forward to: Olivia will perform “Serena Joy” live for the first time on August 29. The standalone promotional single was released to help fund and promote Daisy Chain Fields. The song takes its name from Serena Joy Waterford, the character from Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale, who helps orchestrate a regime that strips women of their rights, only to become a victim of the very system she helped build. One-hundred percent of the net proceeds from the track will be donated directly to the Daisy Chain Fields fund.
And where those proceeds will go is just as central to the festival’s mission. One of the beneficiaries of the festival is Jhpiego, a nonprofit global health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University that aims to provide transformative healthcare solutions accessible to every woman and family, regardless of where they live. The same organization was the sole beneficiary of Olivia’s GUTS concert in Manila back in 2024, where all tickets were priced at a flat PHP 1,500.
Other beneficiaries of Daisy Chain Fields include Planned Parenthood, Center for Reproductive Rights, Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, FreeFrom, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Rights, National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Institute for Reproductive Health, and the National Women’s Law Center.
Additionally, the festival’s commitment to its causes also extends to how audiences can take part. With the festival coming up, true fans don’t have to worry about scalpers doubling ticket prices, thanks to the Daisy Chain Reaction. In partnership with L.A. Works, only those who earned nontransferable passes through community service hours can attend the first major female-led festival this weekend.
