The Met Gala 2023 theme is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, in tribute to the legendary designer who died in 2019. As in previous years, Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton is in charge of the exhibition—which he says will not be a “traditional retrospective”—while Amanda Harlech, who worked closely with Lagerfeld for years, is the show’s creative consultant. Fittingly, this year’s Met Gala dress code is “in honour of Karl”—with many guests likely to choose from the creative director’s vast archives at Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Balmain, Patou and his own eponymous brand.
