Voluminous hair, black bows, and bold liner were some of the biggest beauty trends at the 95th Academy Awards.
The Oscars 2023 are award season’s final curtain call, a finale that asks actors and collaborators to pull out all of the beauty-centric stops. And while each annual event has a certain air about it, the Academy Awards are all down to (often exaggerated) elegance, the descriptor mutating to match the current style scene.
Hair, for example, was entirely in-step with the most recent runways. Black bows finished Vanessa Hudgens’s and Florence Pugh’s slicked and polished updos; Pugh’s offered extra edge by way of a set of one-night-only bangs. Halle Bailey’s statement plaits skewed statuesque, a feel also favored by Danai Gurira with her towering updo. Meanwhile, sleek, nape-of-the-neck knots, like Cara Delevingne’s, were provided a foil in the form of the tousled, voluminous finishes as seen on the likes of Halle Berry and Angela Bassett. And while Ana De Armas’s center-separated brunette paired well with frothy, petal pink touches, the bold liner donned by Lady Gaga and Andie MacDowell made a case for a deeper brand of glam.
