Extravagant silhouettes dominated the red carpet this week.
The word “casual” was certainly not on A-listers’ minds this week. Hollywood’s red carpets were filled with opulent and extravagant silhouettes. The best-dressed stars gravitated towards designs that had strong shapes and shimmery finishes, both of which popped on camera and attracted the paparazzi.
Bold hues especially stood out: At the L.A. premiere of The School For Good And Evil, Kerry Washington wore a minty green Ralph Lauren look consisting of a cropped polo top and floor-length evening skirt. At the Ticket to Paradise premiere in L.A., Julia Roberts wore a hot pink gown by the Canadian label Greta Constantine, finished with puff sleeves and a tiered ballgown skirt. These colors were decidedly summery, but felt fresh in covered-up lengths for the cooler fall-winter months.
Dazzling sequins also proved to be popular. At an Omega Gala in Nashville, Nicole Kidman’s green Christian Siriano mini dress shone, while Beyoncé’s Gucci gown with embellished stars at the bust—worn to L.A.’s Wearable Art Gala—was the perfect combination of playfulness and Old Hollywood glamour.
There were even a few vintage moments this week: Emily Ratajkowski sported an archival red Dior mini dress to a Kerastase party in France, while Amal Clooney chose a throwback printed McQueen dress for her Ticket to Paradise premiere, with husband George Clooney by her side. Amal’s the queen of vintage, after all—are you surprised?
