Bobs on Bobs, Perfectly Swirled Edges, and Bold Eyeshadow: Beauty at the Tony Awards 2024

Tonight is the 77th annual Tony Awards. Anybody acting on stage knows their way around the glam room—after all, the stage lights are bright (very, very bright) and require so much makeup if you don’t want to look washed out. (Unless that’s what your character calls for…paging Eddie Redmayne’s Emcee in Cabaret.) That’s just one of the many reasons tonight’s red carpet is one of the most fun and unpredictable of the year (another is the strong sense of individuality in the industry).
This is the third year by Ariana DeBose at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City, and the triple threat didn’t feel like she needed to prove anything—cue a low pony with a bow. We’re feverishly watching the red carpet and enjoying a few trends: of course, bobs are still popping (and we don’t expect that to stop anytime soon)—but there are also moments of glorious individualism happening. Alicia Keys, who will be performing tonight, has artful (so does Nikiya Mathis), while a close second-place in the most popular hairstyle of the evening is an up-do with face-framing tendrils.
Below, we zero in on some of our favorite beauty looks of the evening—after all, a red carpet isn’t just a moment for fashion to shine.
