When it comes to ’90s and Noughties It-girl style, the usual suspects spring to mind: Winona Ryder, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston. In other words, the holy trinity of slip dress and spaghetti-strap minimalism. But an often overlooked entry in the Calvin Klein-coded hall of fame? Cameron Diaz. Long before she was belting out “Mr Brightside” in a quaint English cottage or giving life to Princess Fiona, Diaz was strutting around Hollywood in a series of understated looks that made even the most devoted Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy disciples take notes.
A more pared-back counterpoint to her Charlie’s Angels wardrobe of off-the-shoulder crop tops and low-slung jeans, Diaz’s everyday style was pure stripped-back ’90s cool – all cropped cardigans and midi-skirts paired with those signature peroxide locks.
Here, a few of Cameron Diaz’s best throwback moments and the ones we’ll be channelling this season (or, at least, when the weather warms up).
