Given the obsession with all things ’90s and Noughties in fashion right now, it’s no surprise that Stella McCartney’s Chloé era is enjoying a comeback. Olivia Rodrigo has become the latest high-profile fan, wearing a pair of horse-printed trousers from spring-summer 2001 at the Billboard Women In Music event this week.
The revival began when Bella Hadid wore a vintage ruched black top with Chloé emblazoned down the side, back in 2021. Teamed with low-rise jeans, the look was straight from McCartney’s late ’90s and early ’00s playbook. After that, Paris Jackson sported the designer’s oft-referenced Rock Royalty tee—originally worn by McCartney and Liv Tyler at the 1999 Met Gala, in reference to their famous fathers (The Beatles’s Paul McCartney and Aerosmith’s Steve Tyler).
Even McCartney herself seems to be nostalgic for the period, with her spring-summer 2023 show being inspired by the ’90s. Her time at Chloé epitomized turn-of-the-millennium style, from slip dresses and corsets to boho-style blouses and fringing (often delivered with an extra dose of raunchiness). Back then, it was the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz and Britney Spears who were the Chloé poster girls.
