The Dad Sneaker Is Getting A Gen Z Update

Singer and rapper Jaden Smith wears the Archlight Loafer; the classic shoe get’s a futuristic update with the signature Archlight sole.

Louis Vuitton’s famous Archlight sneaker is getting a revamp on its fifth anniversary.

Five years ago, ankle boots and bohemian sandals were cast aside as the hottest footwear on the fashion week and music festival circuits in favor of a surprising contender: the dad sneaker. The chunky shoe quickly made its way through to high fashion collections, from the Balenciaga Triple S to Off-White’s OOO sneakers.

Even luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton led by Nicolas Ghesquière stepped out of its comfort zone and released a head-turning, futuristic Archlight sneaker that quickly became a fashion week essential. First debuted in the brand’s Spring Summer 2018 collection, the sci-fi shoe offered an elevated, avant-garde take on the athletic footwear.

The Newest It-Shoe

The arrival of the next it-sneaker was even celebrated during an exclusive pop-up in Soho alongside Vogue, which drew the likes of Alexandre Assouline, Charlotte Groeneveld, Jenny Albright, and other industry leaders. The platform sneaker with an exaggerated arch was also spotted on the likes of celebrities Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid and local stars like Anne Curtis, Jess Wilson, and Kim Jones.

After making its way into the fashion zeitgeist, the brand has decided to reinvent the seminal sneaker for its fifth anniversary. Rather than retaining its form solely as a sneaker, the brand decided to apply the essence of the Archlight —its futuristic rubber sole—to a number of classic footwear designs.

The Archlight’s Signature Sole Gives New Life To Classics

The LV Archlight 2.0 finds new life as a moccasin, a penny loafer, a dessert boot, and many more variations. According to the brand, the new designs were heavily inspired by Y2K fashion, cottage core, and goth aesthetics, alongside the Gen Z sensibility of mixing and matching various styles.

Having been originally pushed into the fashion limelight by younger personalities, Louis Vuitton made the move to partner up with three stars in various fields; film, music, and sports. Actress Chloë Grace Moretz, rapper and singer Jaden Smith, and footballer Sam Li were chosen as the faces of the brand’s new Archlight collection.

With its relaunch including a wide range of options, it’s likely that the Archlight 2.0 will reemerge as the next covetable item on the fashion circuit.
