These street-style stars make the case for ultra-long braids on any occasion.
The first fashion week circuit of the year draws to a close with the end of Paris Fashion Week’s Fall 2023 collections. There was no shortage of fanfare on the runway, from Coperni’s robots, to live horses at Stella McCartney, and celebrities walking the catwalks like Emma Corrin and Gwendoline Christie.
On the runway, makeup artists are paving the way for the return of punk thanks to a wave of tributes to Vivienne Westwood after her passing, starting with Dior’s deconstructed eyeliner and Schiaparelli’s deep vampy lips. Balenciaga’s post-apocalyptic show featured lacquered wine-colored lips and a rugged wet hair look, while Undercover opted to put lashes at the forefront, with brightly colored extensions that complemented the pieces.
Fashion week goers have exuded just as much artistry and exuberance, embracing avant-garde shapes and fantastical makeup. As the late famed fashion editor Diana Vreeland once said, “Don’t you know? Exaggeration is my only reality.”
In terms of hair, there was one look that stood out amongst fashion week attendees, spanning between Milan and Paris: ultra-long braids. Serpentine plaits stood out this season for their waist, and even sometimes hip-grazing lengths.
During this fashion month, the fashionable crowd showed that the hairstyle can be fit for any occasion or level of dressing, whether it be slick pigtail braids, easy loose plaits, or box braids. The look was paired with anything from stylish athleisure to elegant gowns or tailored suits, and everything in between.
Even actor and model Indya Moore sported a sculptural take on the trend, alongside a red biker-esque leather dress at Alexander McQueen. The attainable ‘do is an easy and versatile option for anyone sporting longer hair this time of year.
