Photographed by Shaira Luna for the February 2025 Issue of Vogue Philippines
In this ongoing style series, Vogue gets a rare look into the wardrobes of Filipino creatives.
One of Shaira Luna’s favorite pastimes? Scrolling through eBay’s vintage section. “Sometimes, I’ll see an interesting vintage piece while watching a video on YouTube. Next thing you know, I’m already looking for, or bidding on, a similar item. I love acquiring pieces that I can use in my shoots and also in real life,” the photographer shares. “The thrill of the hunt is also very real!”
Shaira was shopping secondhand before it became trendy among younger consumers; when she began producing shoots for fun, she would reference film and television costumes or old images, which eventually trickled down to her own outfits. In an Instagram account dedicated to documenting her day-to-day looks, over 42,000 people follow along as Shaira styles her thrifted finds. “Generally, I think my style is quite gentle and easy to digest, even with all the colors and prints! The cuts and silhouettes are basically ‘daily dressing,’ but just from a past era.” She cites Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones and Florence Welch of Florence & The Machine as personalities she always goes back to, no matter which sartorial genre she experiments with.
Though shopping secondhand has never been easier, Shaira insists on the merit of visiting boutiques. “Thrift physically, if you can! There are rarely photos or mannequins in thrift stores to dictate or influence your purchases, so you can force yourself to be creative!” To encourage it, she hosts the bi-annual Creatives Closet Sale, which celebrates its 10th year in 2025, where people can shop the closets of stylists, photographers, set designers, and art directors.
