Halle Bailey has been making subtle nods to her role as Ariel in the live action remake of the Disney classic The Little Mermaid for a while now, and her nautical style journey reached its peak at the world premiere of the film this week.
All eyes were on the actor as she posed for pictures on the red carpet, wearing a sculptural gown by Valdrin Sahiti, realised in an iridescent metallic fabric. The fitted skirt called to mind Ariel’s shimmering tail, while the corseted bodice and shell-like bra were playful riffs on her character’s look.
The actor was joined by her older sister Chlöe – with whom she performs as an eponymous pop R&B duo – who looked radiant in a custom sunshine-yellow Gert-Johan Coetzee gown, and co-star Simone Ashley, who opted for hot pink Atelier Versace.
From Zoë Kravitz’s feline Batman tour wardrobe, to Zendaya’s cobwebbed Valentino couture look for a Spiderman premiere, Halle follows a long line of celebrities who have taken a literal approach to dressing for the red carpet. Expect to see more mermaid references from the rising star as the press tour continues.
