Florence Pugh Goes Baby Bangs-First Into Fall

If there were any remaining doubts that we are in the midst of a bangs-ssance, Florence Pugh has put them to rest. Dakota Johnson took her signature fringe shorter this fall—and admitted to Vogue that she occasionally takes the scissors to it herself—while Taylor Swift continues to demonstrate just how effectively a set of bangs can telegraph an entire era, and Jennifer Lawrence bounced from butterfly bangs to a decidedly shorter set. Now, Pugh has entered the chat with the most rebellious version yet.

Last night, Pugh attended the world premiere of Jaguar’s new Type 01 at STORIED in New York, where she was also announced as the British marque’s inaugural brand ambassador for its new era. But the actor’s own new-era moment was happening several inches above the eyebrows. Working with her usual glam and styling cohort—hairstylist Hyungsun Ju, makeup artist Alex Babsky, and stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray—Pugh wore her blonde hair swept into an architectural updo, where little loops and spikes emerged from the crown, with a short, deliberately piecey set of bangs skimming high across her forehead. It felt punkish and bold, particularly alongside Babsky’s precise brows and a sharply defined crimson lip, as well as a lacquered black manicure. Her body-skimming black gown with its waistcoat bodice from Patrick McDowell’s fall 2026 collection and Bulgari diamonds added that glamorous edge.

It’s another example of the particular tension Florence Pugh does so well on the , taking the traditional codes of bombshell glamour and running a streak of rebellion straight through them. Recent weeks on the press tour have seen her glam team delight in extremes. At Venice, Ju pulled her golden lengths into a high, textured ponytail before sculpting them into a slick wet-look quiff for a Bulgari event; for the East of Eden premieres, there have been tumbling lengths and big, romantic updos to offset all those Rodarte ruffles and dramatic gowns.

Technically, Pugh has flirted with the baby bang before. At the 2023 Oscars, hairstylist Peter Lux fashioned her ponytail forward into clever trompe l’oeil micro bangs as part of an equally sculptural updo. But against her current longer hair, this latest incarnation feels newly sharp.

And she’s certainly in good company. Bangs in all their permutations have become one of fall’s easiest beauty reset buttons: wispy, brow-skimming, heavy and blunt, or cropped several centimeters above the brow. Flo Pugh, naturally, has gone straight for the version with the most attitude. Is the only way into fall bangs-first?
