From custom Bode creations to a Glorious Díaz “Mahal Kita” jersey, Laufey brought fashion and storytelling together during her Manila residency.
For Laufey, a tour wardrobe is never just a rack of clothes.
During her three sold-out nights at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and Vogue Philippines May 2026 cover star wore bespoke designs that transported her audience into a fever dream of modern jazz. The costumes, designed in collaboration with Emily Adams Bode Aujla of Bode, trace their origins to a look Laufey first wore during her Goddess Tour in Asia. “It was my first arena show ever,” she recalls. “This has been my favorite performance costume because it feels so fun and free but very classic and beautiful.” That white ensemble became “the blueprint” for the wardrobe of her A Matter of Time tour.
Drawing inspiration from “old dance costumes of the ’30s” and ballet, the opening looks consisted of a Clara Bow-esque flapper dress with beaded fringe and multi-colored glass beads, and a glittery baby-blue prom dress filled with layers of tulle, as Laufey described, “felt like it just floated on stage.”
As the concert moves into its jazzier chapters, so do the clothes. “I change out of the tutu, and it’s just this mini skirt, and it’s so fun and flirty and kind of like a little sexier,” she said. “I get to really dance and feel the beads.” Later, she introduces costumes inspired by “old marching band uniforms,” while her musicians appear in matching jackets, creating a world that feels “inspired by the Jazz Age but still feels very modern and very me.”
For the Asia leg, Laufey added perhaps her most personal look yet: a red qipao-inspired design that pays tribute to her Chinese heritage. “I love being able to touch on my heritage through the costumes,” she said. “It’s been such a great form of expression to further convey the story and the music.”
At soundcheck, she chose a red jersey from cult-favorite Glorious Dias, the beloved Escolta-based vintage boutique and label, emblazoned with “Mahal Kita” in front and “Pilipins” at the back, delighting fans on Instagram before the show had even begun.
The Manila run also became a showcase for local talent. On the second night, Laufey welcomed BINI onstage for a surprise performance of “From The Start,” with all eight members dressed in gowns by Vania Romoff. The moment marked the first time a Filipino act had shared the stage with Laufey, adding another milestone to BINI’s rapid rise as one of the most powerful girl groups on the planet.
