At the Vogue Philippines special screening of The Devil Wears Prada 2, Johnnie Walker takes a few pages from the Miranda Priestly playbook to create three unique cocktails
In the publishing industry, there is never one part that isn’t moving, and in The Devil Wears Prada, Runway Magazine, helmed by editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, knows this best. In the film, Andy Sachs is almost always in motion, racing through New York City, coffee orders in hand, phone pressed to her ear, and accepting every last-minute request, while Emily Charlton’s pace is all about urgency. Even Miranda’s introduction sends the entire office into motion, editors and assistants scrambling, heels clicking, and everything shifting into place before she steps in.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is also similar: lots of running around the city, driving to far locations for interviews, and pacing through the many events during fashion week. In the same vein, this parallels Johnnie Walker’s generational growth: founded in his father’s grocery shop, creating his own blended spirit, and growing it beyond Kilmarnock, Scotland. Years later, a roster of whiskeys filled market shelves across Britain, the “Striding Man” motif came to life, and “Keep Walking” became a slogan.
In the movie, Runway collaborates with fashion houses and emerging talents in fashion and art, redefining its monthly themes into capsules of inspiration with each issue; “This is not just a magazine. This is a shining beacon of hope,” as Stanley Tucci’s Nigel Kipling once said. Johnnie Walker is also about community and shared creativity, having worked alongside modern visionaries in film, TV, and couture over the last 10 years.
One memorable collaboration was with master blender Dr. Emma Walker. In 2023, she and chef Kei Kobayashi co-created the Blue Label Elusive Umami, offering notes of red berries, miso, and grilled pineapple; and just last year, the Black Ruby’s launch showcased the whiskey’s blend of bright, sweetened berry flavors through a unique cocktail-flight experience. This year is no different either, as the brand curated a selection of cocktails inspired by the films’ universe at the Vogue Philippines block screening of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in SM Aura.
Inside the Director’s Club’s wine bar lounge, black drapes with gold and crimson accents are paired with each other to match the film’s palette. Guests such as Neal Oshima, Miguel Rosales, and more were also seen sharing their anticipation for the film over canapés and scarlet-colored glasses.
Bespoke cocktails featuring the Johnnie Walker Black Ruby are the base of the drinks, each referencing the film and its parallels to the blended scotch whiskey. The Black Ruby is the latest addition to the Johnnie Walker roster, featuring notes of red berry preserve, maraschino cherries, figs, and honey with a subtle smokiness to it.
The Strawberry Stride takes a subtle nod to Miranda Priestly’s signature walk into Runway Magazine, creating a refreshing yet refined flavor with its use of hibiscus cherry tea and fresh strawberry slices. The Devil Keeps Walking, on the other hand, serves as a reminder of the authority that the fictional publication stands for, using red Italian bitters and Rosso vermouth for a deep-colored and herbal profile. Lastly, a nod to the classic whiskey sour, the Black Label. No Notes. serves as a direct call to the online reactions that came after the sequel’s premiere.
