Johnnie Walker Black Ruby marks the first innovation inspired by Black Label since Dr. Emma Walker assumed the role of Master Blender in 2022. The whisky is a study in contrasts: smooth yet striking, sweet yet grounded in the familiar smoky notes that have defined the house for generations. Matured in PX and Oloroso red wine casks, alongside traditional bourbon barrels, Black Ruby offers a layered, sophisticated palate where raspberry jam, blackberry pie, and hints of maraschino cherry meet subtle spices and delicate smoke. Each sip is a balance of sweetness and depth, a whisky designed for those who appreciate refinement without rigidity.
The heart of Black Ruby comes from the Roseisle distillery, one of Scotland’s most progressive whisky makers. Dr. Walker explains, “At Roseisle, we experimented with longer fermentation and distillation periods to create a fruity distillate. That allowed us to amplify the fresh fruit character and refine the whisky’s smoothness.” The result is a whisky that retains the bold personality of Johnnie Walker while offering a gentler, sweeter entrance for those discovering a new side to Scotch.
At the launch, guests moved through the space as if on a tasting journey. Bespoke cocktails like the Ruby Strawberry Sour and the Ruby Negroni translated Black Ruby’s complex sweetness into artistry.
