Just a week after releasing the music video for her single “Madwoman,” Laufey publishes her first children’s book, Mei Mei the Bunny.
Releasing a children’s book isn’t an idea that is too far-fetched for Grammy Award-winning musician Laufey. Apart from being a singer-songwriter who tells her stories through music, she has already hinted at this possibility before. So, when she officially launched Mei Mei The Bunny through her social media platforms, her target audience expanded beyond the usual: children.
Published by Penguin Workshop, Mei Mei the Bunny tells the story of a little bunny with a big dream. With her first recital at H’Opera House approaching and her desire to make people happy, she has been practicing hard but has been getting the jitters.
In the making of this book, Laufey also collaborated with Lauren O’Hara, an award-winning illustrator from the North of England. O’Hara has done work for Sophie Dahl, Vivian French, and the Royal Opera House, and has received the Honour Award for Illustration for Frindleswylde in 2022.
In a previous interview with Vogue Philippines in 2025, Laufey expressed that her ambitions are constantly evolving as she seeks new creative opportunities. She envisioned herself writing both a film score and a children’s book, and she has recently brought the latter to life. “I don’t like being pegged as something [specific]. I always want to go beyond what people believe about me.”
Her love for books materialized when she started The Laufey Book Club back in 2022. Aside from communicating with her fans about her music, the book club also serves as a medium to share her inspirations through discussions about books. It was in this same book club that Mei Mei was first introduced, and she eventually became a fan favorite with her own plush toy, bag charms, and a social media following.
With the release of her children’s book, April becomes an eventful month for Laufey, who also released her “Madwoman” music video on April 13 and has now started preparing for her Asia tour that will begin on May.
