Anna Vitiello doesn’t believe in having a uniform. With her inspirations spanning from her lola to Grace Jones, each day becomes an opportunity to try something new.
Anna Vitiello’s earliest fashion memories include her Lola Rosie, who they affectionately called Nanay. “Although she didn’t have the means to buy anything luxury,” Anna shares, “she still was always impeccably dressed and would save for special pieces like a Dior costume jewelry necklace, one of which I still have and wear.”
To this day, Anna’s style remains inspired by her grandmother, along with her Italian heritage and a childhood obsession with Gucci, Prada, and Armani. Her notes on dressing are often gathered from the past; that includes music, film, and women in the late ’80s and ’90s, from Grace Jones and Madonna to Linda Evangelista and Claudia Schiffer. For day-to-day, she usually turns to ’80s tailoring as it helps her feel polished with minimal effort.
Despite these staple references, she insists that “there is no such thing as a uniform. The word has been thrown around a lot over the years, but I personally find it limiting.” Instead, she offers a fail-proof trick: push the boundaries of what you think you can wear. “That’s how I like to get dressed,” she explains. “I never take it too seriously.” With a proclivity for unexpected pairings, Anna has taken to mixing archival pieces and Filipino favorites like Mark Bumgarner and Carl Jan Cruz with heritage brands like YSL, Chanel, and Gucci—her first loves that make up the most of her wardrobe. Of course, that doesn’t come as much of a surprise. It looks like she got it from her Nanay.
