Few people have served as many memorable outfits over the years as Sarah Jessica Parker – both on and off screen. From the moment Sex and the City hit our screens in 1998, she became synonymous with daring and unforgettable fashion. While Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe will always be legendary (the Dior newspaper dress! The oversized flower brooches! That wedding dress!), SJP’s real-life style holds up just as well.
Now, as she rings in her 60th birthday, there’s no denying her legacy. Never one to play it safe, she’s a woman who wears what she loves with conviction – whether that’s a Carrie-inspired sequined Fendi baguette at brunch or a pair of stilettos for a stroll through Manhattan. Her red carpet history is full of memorable looks, like the time she appeared at the 2006 Met Gala, arm and arm with Alexander McQueen in matching tartan ensembles. Or, almost a decade on, when she paired an elaborate Philip Treacy headpiece with a custom H&M gown, proving that she’s still a woman of the people. SJP is a risk taker and hats off for it.
Away from the red carpet, the everyday ensembles are worth noting, too. SJP’s off-duty style is just as playful as her couture moments and we’d expect nothing less from the woman who brought our favourite fashionista to life season after season. Although she may be a little different from Ms Bradshaw in romantic inclinations and her character’s general chaotic demeanour, Parker is no stranger to a vintage slip dress or torso-baring moment.
At 60, SJP’s love of fashion is still as infectious as ever. To celebrate her milestone birthday, take a look back at 15 of her greatest fashion moments.
