Actress Janine Gutierrez and drag queen Precious Paula Nicole reflect on their skin experiences
Would you go barefaced in public? It’s a question that global beauty brand NIVEA asked at the recent relaunch of its Luminous630 range, now formulated with Thiamidol, a research-backed ingredient developed by Beiersdorf that targets the root cause of dark spots.

Actress Janine Gutierrez accepted the challenge. A week before the event, the 35-year-old began trying the Luminous630 range, curious to see if the products’ promise of visible results would hold up. As someone who enjoys spending time under the sun, hyperpigmentation has been a recurring skin concern.
“My skin is sensitive,” she says, adding that even with sun protection, unevenness in her skin still returns. “That’s why it’s important for me to find skincare that really works and won’t irritate [it].”
For drag queen Precious Paula Nicole, years spent in full-coverage makeup have made transitioning to bare skin offstage feel vulnerable, especially when fans want to take photos. Like Gutierrez, they took on NIVEA’s challenge and arrived at the event with no makeup.

Held at the SM MOA Atrium, the event gathered guests, including Gutierrez and Precious Paula Nicole, for an immersive skin experience and a barefaced photo shoot captured by photographer Elena Ortega-Ong. The shoot aimed to highlight what it means to show up as yourself, without filters or foundation.
The campaign also featured a diverse set of participants including theatre actress Gab Pangilinan, drag queens Eva Le Queen, Khianna, and Your Tita Baby, as well as content creators Mica Arevalo, Iya Omania, and Marie Field Faith. Each joined the shoot to showcase their natural skin tone and texture.
Dressed in light or neutral clothing, participants were photographed smiling and laughing against a white backdrop under soft, even lighting. The shoot, more than just a visual exercise, was a way to document what skin confidence looks like on different individuals at different points in their journeys.
Thiamidol, the featured breakthrough ingredient in the range, is a patented ingredient developed by Beiersdorf over a decade of research. Based on their findings, Thiamidol works by inhibiting human tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for melanin production and reduces visible and invisible spots. Clinically tested, the brand states that the NIVEA Luminous630 range, which includes NIVEA Luminous630 Antispot Advanced Dark Spot Serum, NIVEA Luminous630 AntiSpot Daily Moisturizer Light Cream SPF50 PA+++, and NIVEA Luminous630 Antispot Night Complexion Repair, is the most effective in reducing dark spots, both visible and invisible, making your skin more luminous than ever with consistent use.
