Stella McCartney and B&B Italia Unveil Fixtures That Marry Form, Function, and Circularity

The new iteration of the Le Bambole series signifies a new environmental direction for both of these collaborators

At the height of Milan Design Week 2022, the greatest artisans in the realm of interior design and furniture have gathered together in a showcase of their latest creations. Among the diverse array of distinctively cut sculptures, expansive art installations, and innovations in functional design, furniture house B&B Italia and fashion label Stella McCartney previously debuted The Le Bambole series.

A marrying of the minds between two vastly different realms of artistry, the collaboration was sparked by Stella McCartney’s deep appreciation for designer Mario Bellini’s work. Having built a name through intuitive design, Bellini designed the original Le Bambole armchair half a century ago; with it now being found in homes and interiors across the globe. In celebration of the armchair’s 50th anniversary, the Le Bambole series was reimagined in the image of conscious innovation.

The capsule collection focuses on a return to nature, with elements of flora present throughout its visual language. Given these elements, the pieces of furniture are also constructed with sustainability in mind. With an interior initially made in a metal wrapped in polyurethane plastic, the Stella McCartney series of furniture features a recycled frame that retains the comfort and shape of its predecessor. Moving outward, its upholstery is transformed in a more environmentally friendly presentation. Its fabric has been imbued with a fully biodegradable polyester material, with its ink also receiving the same treatment.

A collection that transports every user toward a lush oasis, the Stella McCartney X B&B Italia collection is fully designed with an environmental ethos, both in function and in its aesthetics. Its fabric has been embroidered with ink colored in a subdued red hue, with each item of the collection drawn in imagery of lush forests of fungi and flora. Titled the “Fungi Forest” print, it was first seen in Stella McCartney’s Summer 2022 runway collection as a reflection of their pivot toward a more conscious direction.

The capsule collection releases three pieces of furniture: the Le Bambole armchair, a Bibambola double-seater sofa, and a Granbambola 3-seater sofa. With circularity in mind, each fixture is designed for full disassembly, allowing for ease of repair and the ability to recycle each of its materials at the end of its shelf life.

B&B Italia is located at GF & 10F, Twenty-Four Seven McKinley, 24th Street cor. 7th Avenue, McKinley Parkway, Bonifacio Global City.
