A celebration of movement, love, and sustainability, marked the first anniversary of Filipino slow fashion brand, Lily & Matilda

When talking about the theme of their first anniversary celebration, Jaymee Rose Quinto, founder of Lily & Matilda, had one must-have for the venue that will house their dance-themed party. It was important that the venue had mirrors. More than mere decor, they serve as a symbolic bridge connecting the guest’s aligned movements with the brand’s intentional, expressive and purposeful artistry, all deeply founded in self-expression and love.

“We centered this event around movement, particularly dance,” explains Quinto. “We carefully chose details like the mirrors, because mirror work and self-affirmations are a transformative and holistic practice we want to continue exploring as a shared practice with our community.”

As a self-love solution teacher, Quinto views dance as a fitting metaphor for the brand’s foundational principle. “Like dance, slow fashion emphasizes intention, rhythm and flow,” she shares. “Both celebrate the process rather than rushing through it, prioritize quality, and foster mindful expression.”

In Blanco by GForce in Bonifacio Global City, guests, including actress Coleen Garcia, model Teo Cordial, content creator Stef Draper, and Dr. Geraldine Zamora change into the fashion label’s collection of body suits. Personally chosen by attendees, the 12-piece capsule is a departure from the brand’s initial palette of denim blues and neutrals.

Each design was tied to positive affirmations, such as I am Creative, I am Fearless, I am Loved, I am Strong, and a butterfly-printed ‘I am Unique’ body suit design by visual artist, Carlo Angelo Saavedra, which symbolizes transformative growth and creativity. These body suits, doubling as swimwear or casual wear, emphasize their versatility and practicality.

“When you feel happy, you want to wear colors that match that energy,” shares Quinto. The class, dancing to the hit song “APT” by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars, highlights how fashion, movement, and endorphins can uplift and affirm. “By seeing their reflections and enjoying the process of learning an upbeat song, it’s doing a different kind of mirror work,” adds the Lily & Matilda founder.

Over nearly two hours of learning the hit song’s choreography, Lily & Matilda’s anniversary event served as more than just a celebration, it was a step toward strengthening connections within their “Besties” community. Moving beyond social media interactions, the brand aims to create more offline experiences where members can gather, express themselves, and feel supported. This initiative aligns with Quinto’s self-love solution philosophy: move, love, grow, create, and share.

The Lily & Matilda founder also notes that these events go beyond showcasing fashion. According to them, they symbolize the brand’s mission of nurturing a community centered on self-expression and love. “The brand message is clear: while building vibrant and dynamic relationships is an essential human need, the most transformative connection you can cultivate is the one you have with yourself.”
