The fashion maven and Skechers Philippines brand ambassador explains the importance of balance, from managing fitness routines while traveling to spending two-hour walks alone or with husband, Jeremy Jauncey

One day she’s sauntering in Hydra, Greece exploring old harbors and taverns; the next she’s on a holiday in the Alps in Gstaad, Switzerland with her husband, Jeremy Jauncey, and his family. The same can be said when she works: fashion week, photo shoots, filming, and appearances have become a staple in her month-to-month itinerary.

At the grand launch of Pia Wurtzbach as Skechers Philippines’ newest brand ambassador in TriNoma, the 35-year-old shares how she’s thrilled to finally let her followers know why she was in Los Angeles in August: she was filming a series of television commercials for the lifestyle brand.

In an exclusive interview with Vogue Philippines, she also talks about how traveling takes her out of her comfort zone, balancing the frenzied pace of her life, fulfilling her Britney Spears moment, and why walking can be a great time to bond with her husband, Jeremy Jauncey.

Travel often brings new perspectives. Is there a destination that helped you learn something profound about yourself?

I always seem to learn the most when I venture out of my comfort zone and dive into different cultures. A destination that comes to mind is [the region of the] Middle East. Dubai and Saudi Arabia, though close by, are so different. In Saudi Arabia, despite common misconceptions, women can express themselves, though you must respect cultural boundaries.

Traveling to such diverse places, especially as a non-Muslim in a predominantly Muslim community, has really opened my eyes. It makes me appreciate how diverse the world is. Travel is an amazing way to break down stereotypes and be a tool to fight against racism and bigotry. By experiencing different ways of life, you gain new perspectives and a deeper appreciation for people with backgrounds different from your own. It’s truly enriching and has taught me so much.

In your journey as both a traveler and wellness advocate, what’s one lesson you’ve learned others embrace to a balanced and fulfilling life?

I like to balance things; a balanced life is important, especially if you’re a workaholic. I try not to get burnt out. [I believe] the way you recover is just as important as how you perform.

Even though it seems like I’m on the go all the time and traveling back and forth, I wouldn’t be able to do that if I’m not taking care of my mental and physical health. I [feel that I can] handle stress better. I am able to give my best self when I’m performing or when I’m working. I really think those two come hand-in-hand.

What’s your favorite type of workout when you and Jeremy are traveling? Do you have any go-to fitness tips for staying active on the road?

We have very different workout styles. He likes to work out on his own. He has a completely different routine, fitness level, and strength level. But, for me, I like weight training. I find that very enjoyable. I also enjoy running.

But as a couple, we like going on long walks together. I think that’s something we like to do together. We leave our phones behind to just walk and talk. The longest we’ve walked is around two to three hours. We often lose track of time. I recommend this to couples and even individuals; it’s simple yet refreshing. Walking without gadgets clears your mind. Without distractions, you’re left to think, which is incredibly beneficial in this techy-adjacent world.

Beyond nostalgia, in what ways do you find Skechers shoes practical for your daily activities?

Do you remember when Britney Spears was in the [Skechers] ads in the 90s? (laughs) That’s when it all began for me. I started wearing them because I thought it was so cool. I told myself that I wanted to be a part of that someday. And I got to fulfill that during our shoot in Los Angeles. I also got a tour of their headquarters and it was massive! I also met their fantastic team.

Skechers isn’t just about lifestyle shoes, they have everything from fitness and performance to shoes for nurses and kitchen staff, even specialized sports shoes like football and pickleball. It’s not just about style; it’s about practicality as well. These shoes are unbelievably light—so light that if I threw one at someone, they wouldn’t feel a thing, though I wouldn’t recommend trying that. (laughs) When traveling, the ease of slipping in and out at airports and security checks is invaluable. Whether running an errand, going for a walk, or running, I just slip them on and go.
