At Milan Fashion Week, Onitsuka Tiger details its next evolution in elements of grunge, Muay Thai, and technical tailoring

Retro-futuristic gas stations, 20th-century motorcycle culture, and a concept superbike straight out of Kill Bill: the second day of Milan saw its conclusion in the industrial warehouse of Fonderia Carlo Macchi, where creative director Andrea Pompilio unveiled the next chapter of Japanese lifestyle brand Onitsuka Tiger.

More than just a showcase of its Spring-Summer 2027 collection, its concept title “ENERGY STATION” was said to reflect how the brand’s athletic foundations now inform its evolution into the global fashion scene. At the event, Vogue Philippines deputy editor Pam Quiñones was seated alongside Kylie Verzosa, Heart Evangelista, and Max Collins, who shared their anticipation moments before the show.

Exiting a stylized convenience store, models first arrived in interplays of technical tailoring, Western-influenced overcoats, and devoré velvet minidresses that pay homage to 1980s grunge. Sportswear elements also detailed key pieces of the collection, from tracksuit side stripes on wide-legged trousers to double-layered wool shorts inspired by Muay Thai.

Footwear, on the other hand, was centered on Pompilio’s latest take on the brand’s signature Tiger Stripe, as seen in a range of experimental and traditional silhouettes. “The collection streamlines Onitsuka’s brand identity toward fashion utility,” Quiñones notes. “This evolution carries directly into footwear, where athletic soles give way to architectural wedge boots, high-gloss loafers, and hybrid silhouettes worn with sport socks.”

Highlighted throughout the evening was Onitsuka Tiger’s collaboration with Honda, as not only did a concept supersport motorcycle open the show, but so was the automotive brand’s wing mark used to complement the collection’s motocross-inspired garments.

“What really stood out for me was the motorcycle jackets and paneled leather trousers, showing how fashion and automotive engineering collide,” says Quiñones. “I expect to see Onitsuka Tiger double down on cross-disciplinary design inspired by active subcultures and executed with precise Japanese craft.”

The Spring-Summer 2027 collection offers a glimpse into the future of Onitsuka Tiger. Yet as the brand embraces its new direction, Pompilio showcased how he aims to honor its athletic heritage through narratives that ensure form matches function, qualities Quiñones hopes will flourish in the new year. “For me, the end of 2026 demands letting go of reactionary trend cycles and digital fatigue to focus on intentional craftsmanship and sharp, functional design. But also, to find joy and confidence in individuality,” she adds.
