The celebration of Skin Awareness Month was a time to acknowledge the advancements in sensitive skin care with Cetaphil and Galderma Aesthetics
Social media influences stir skincare lovers to trends like “skin streaming,” niacinamide’s prominence, and pigmentation solutions. Meanwhile, makeup aficionados embrace “status skin,” favoring natural looks over heavy coverage, with “espresso” and “balletcore” becoming the latest trends.
But for the 70 percent of people worldwide with sensitive skin, the excitement of trying these trends is often overshadowed by the anxiety of adverse reactions. It’s like tiptoeing through a cosmetic minefield. Will it work? Or will it leave you dry or red?
To bring attention to the nuances of sensitive skin, Galderma embarked on a month-long Skin Awareness Tour. This initiative featured modular booths offering expert skin analyses, visits to aesthetic clinics such as One Nadela, Skin 101, and Derm HQ, and product experiences to a wide audience, traveling from universities to office spaces and concluding the series at a mall, ensuring comprehensive awareness and care for all age groups in Manila.

At the media launch of the Skin Awareness Tour, Cetaphil brand ambassador Jess Wilson and board-certified dermatologist Dr. Coreen Copuyoc-Sampedro imparted skin care tips and expert help in addressing a variety of skin issues. Wilson emphasized the importance of consulting a dermatologist, stating, “Find a dermatologist, work with a dermatologist on your skin to understand your skin concerns, your skin type, and use products recommended by dermatologists.”
But how do you know if you have sensitive skin?
“Skin sensitivity is defined by unpleasant skin sensations such as stinging and burning,” explains dermatologist Dr. Coreen Copuyoc-Sampedro. “It can affect various parts of the body, including the face. Sensitive skin is skin that’s more prone to acting negatively to external factors.”
“First, look for signs of dryness. This is a clue that your skin has high permeability. Next, irritation and roughness can indicate that your neurosensory activity is dysfunctional, leading to discomfort and an uneven skin texture. Also, a feeling of tightness and a visibly weakened skin barrier are major indicators,” shares Dr. Copuyoc-Sampedro.
How do you take care of sensitive skin?
Discussing skincare specifics, Dr. Copuyoc-Sampedro suggests, “The key is simplicity and gentleness.” She recommends starting with a gentle cleanser, followed by a moisturizing lotion formulated for sensitive skin, containing ingredients like niacinamide, panthenol, and glycerin to restore the skin’s natural moisture barrier. She continues, “If you have oily sensitive skin, limit cleansing to twice a day and opt for a light, non-greasy moisturizer.”
The dermatologist also addresses care across different skin types, including oily and eczema-prone skin, emphasizing the importance of selecting the right products to maintain balance and protect the skin against common irritants.
Dr. Copuyoc-Sampedro also suggests opting for soothing products with Miracare, a naturally-derived cleansing ingredient, and Filaggrin Technology to cleanse and moisturize, providing lasting relief and bolstering the skin’s moisture defense for up to 24 hours.
“Sensitive skin doesn’t have to limit your life or the activities you love,” Dr. Copuyoc-Sampedro emphasizes. “With the right care and products, you can protect your skin and enjoy life to the fullest.”
