Initially unveiled in Autumn/Winter 2023, the Knight Bag continues to represent a more vivid and contemporary approach to Burberry’s storied legacy
With Daniel Lee at the helm of Burberry’s creative direction, the English fashion house has seen a more colorful identity that takes direct inspiration from the house’s archives. Throughout each of his collections, the brand’s signature checks and motifs are often playfully manipulated by Lee, resulting in different variations of patterns, palettes, or proportions that have not yet been seen throughout its century-long history.
In continuation toward a bolder and brighter vision for Burberry, Lee had unveiled the Knight Bag (named after Burberry’s Equestrian Knight Device) alongside the Autumn/Winter 2023 collection released a year prior. This accessory served as the centerpiece of his debut collection, with the bag being a nod to Burberry’s equestrian knight through its construction.
Apart from honoring its influences, the bag is also designed as a companion built for both luxury and the great outdoors. Multi-functionality serves as one of the bag’s key hallmarks, as it features fold-over paneling and adjustable straps that allow the wearer to adjust the bag based on their preferences. This also allows the bag to transform into three distinct variations, allowing it to be converted from a cross-body, a tote, to a shoulder bag.
Among the bag’s most notable elements is also the Horse Clip, which is a fastening that further draws breath from Burberry’s equestrian knight, allowing it to be attachable toward a variety of surfaces for any style. Rounding out its visual language, the bag is defined by its unique shape that is distinct from the house’s history of leatherware and accessories. Built in an asymmetrical construction, the Knight Bag has a steep downward arc that distinguishes itself from the house’s other contemporary designs.
As part of the playful interpretation of Lee’s direction for Burberry, the creative director unveils a shearling iteration of the Knight Bag that holds a fur tail that drapes across the bag’s upholstery. This new variation arrives in two vivid colorways: a light, pastel haze and a dark green vine respectively. The Knight Bag also debuts a variant that is enveloped in a soft, grainy leather that is available in shades of black, ribbon, mimosa, and vine.
