Dull and uneven skin tone requires special care with targeted solutions
Find it challenging to care for dull and tired skin? You’re not alone. It’s one of the biggest concerns by women due to a lack of radiance, dehydration, and exposure to harsh environmental elements. In recent years, East and Southeast Asians who live in urban areas have experienced a change in their skincare habits to include specific treatment products for itchiness and other sensitivities.
With signs such as irritation, patchiness, and ashy, it can be quite a task to find products that are safe and gentle enough for your skin, especially in the Philippines where there’s a year-round of heat and humidity.
As a solution, Cetaphil added three products to their Bright Healthy Radiance line for men and women in their early 20s to mid-30s with a routine that will give you luminous complexion without any irritation.
Start with a gentle brightening cleanser
If you’re just beginning to understand the complexities of caring for dull and uneven skin, especially in your 20s, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Irene Gaile Robredo-Vitas, FPDS advises that, “[This routine] should be one that you’re willing to follow.”
With so many lifestyle and environmental factors at play, Robredo-Vitas explains that these can have consequences for our skin and body. It’s essential that people who have dry or dull skin cleanse their skin with a gentle brightening cleanser.
“A good cleanser is one that effectively cleans without stripping the skin of its natural lipids and moisture,” says the dermatologist.
Like any foundation of many skincare regimens, washing your face with a mild cleanser like the Gentle Renewing Cleanser targets clearing away dead skin cells and other impurities. The 3-in-1 face wash, made with Sea Daffodil, Niacinamide, and Jojoba beads that release Vitamin E, gently exfoliates and improves complexion and texture without drying the skin after first use.
Add a radiance sheet mask to your routine
“On days you want to add moisturizing and pampering, use a brightening sheet mask to boost products that you’ve put beforehand,” says Dr. Robredo-Vitas.
Masks are ideal for helping heal blemishes, getting extra moisture, and keeping pores clear of clogged oil buildup. However, they may dry out the rest of your face if they aren’t formulated specifically for skin types like yours.
The Instant Radiance Mask aims to soothe the skin by targetting the common signs of skin dullness such as tired skin, fine lines, and dry pore texture. Through a combination of its key ingredients—Niacinamide, Sea Daffodil, and Antioxidant C—the mask is formulated to boost skin luminosity and improve the evenness of skin tone.
Target skin concerns with an advanced serum
Serums are optimal in penetrating the deep layers of the skin where it’s needed most, especially for those who just entered their 30s. “At this age, your skin, unfortunately, has stopped making new collagen and your collagen and elastin have started to decline,” shares the dermatologist. Dr. Robredo-Vitas also explains that in this age group, we start seeing some of the signs from our lifestyle choices and genetics.
“In addition to what you apply in your 20s, you may now start applying products such as serums that contain higher concentrations of active ingredients like Vitamin C,” adds the skin specialist.
With the Perfecting Serum, the Bright Healthy Radiance skin product addresses different types of dark spots for a more even skin tone. The serum also promotes skin hydration with ingredients like Advanced Peptide and Antioxidant C, along with its signature compounds Niacinamide and Sea Daffodil. With regular use, the hypoallergenic serum can also give a complete protection of the skin from external environmental elements such as blue light and pollution.
To top off any skincare regimen, Robredo-Vitas advises everyone to finish their regimen with sunscreen or layer it with skincare products. “Layer your SPF. Personally, I use products such as moisturizers and even makeup with SPF.” She also suggests buying sunscreens that are broad spectrum—with at least SPF 30—that can protect skin from UVA/UVB rays and minimize wrinkles and fine lines.
As with any skincare regimen, it’s important to pay attention to what works for your skin type. After all, your skin deserves the best care. If you have dull skin, be sure to consult a board-certified dermatologist so they can give you better advice on products and techniques to use.
