When are the 2023 Tony Awards?

The 2023 Tony Awards are set for Sunday, June 11, at 8 p.m. ET.  A preshow, hosted by Julianne Hough and Skylar Astin, will air on Pluto TV from 6:30-8 p.m. ET.

How long are the Tony Awards?

Historically, about three hours long, but given the changes to the ceremony’s format this year (more on that below), it may well come in a bit shorter on Sunday.

Where are the 2023 Tony awards being held?

In a departure from previous ceremonies, typically held at Radio City Music Hall or the Beacon Theater, the venue for the Tonys year is the historic United Palace Theater in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood.

How can I watch the 2023 Tony Awards?

The Tonys will air live on CBS and Paramount+.

How will the WGA strike impact the 2023 Tony Awards?

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the June 11 ceremony will “move forward with an unscripted, televised broadcast” as the Writers Guild of America strike stretches on. Although Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is not in the WGA, was asked to pen this year’s opening number shortly before the work stoppage began on May 2 (the Miranda Family Fund is a longtime supporter of the United Palace), he later stopped in solidarity with the strikers.

News of the Tonys’ new format followed reports that the Tony Awards Management Committee was denied a waiver or exception from the WGA, although the union confirmed that it would not picket this year’s event. However, the WGA did later encourage its members not to attend.

Who is hosting the 2023 Tony Awards?

Ariana DeBose—who emceed last year’s ceremony—will return to host the 2023 Tonys, although the writers’ strike will limit her responsibilities. Ditto those of this year’s presenters, who will not be reading from a teleprompter. According to THR, “presenters will only have cue cards with the list of nominees, which is all they’re expected to read at this time.”
