Here is the first trailer for the couple’s Netflix series.

Netflix just released the trailer for the highly-anticipated series Harry & Meghan, which pulls back the curtain on their romance, struggles, and private moments.

Set to debut on December 8, the six-episode series shows the couple’s early days of courtship to recounting their hardships and struggles. Directed by two-time Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning director Liz Garbus, the documentary provides an inside look at what Prince Harry describes in the teaser as “what’s happening behind closed doors.”

The trailer coincides with Prince William and Princess Kate’s visit to the United States to attend the Earthshot Prize ceremony and is expected to become a source of tension for the royal family according to mixed reactions from viewers. The project was reportedly delayed following the Queen’s passing.

“Why did you want to make this documentary?” a voice asks the couple in the trailer. A montage follows with never-before-seen images of the Duke & Duchess of Sussex showcasing their budding romance.

“When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?” Markle states. The minute-long trailer comprises of sit-down interviews with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a black-and-white photograph of the couple’s 2018 wedding, the couple kissing in a kitchen, selfies (which are rarely seen from members of the royal family), and endearing snaps from a photobooth.

In an interview with Variety, the Duchess of Sussex provided insight to the series. “It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story—a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired—even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it,” she explains.

“Partner love, self-love, the love of community and family. We use that as the baseline of the kind of shows and documentaries we want out there,” she continues in the interview. It’s said that the show will include interviews with the couple’s friends and family who have never spoken publicly. After scenes of Meghan Markle crying and an image of the members of the royal family, Prince Harry says in the trailer, “I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”

An in-depth documentary, the series is said to premiere when the Duke & Duchess of Sussex receive the Ripple of Hope award on December 6, organized by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation. Although, Netflix has yet to confirm a release date for the show.
