The PhotoVogue Global Open Call 2024 theme is “Tree of Life: A Love Letter to Nature.”
For the 2024 PhotoVogue Global Open Call, participants are invited to engage in the larger conversation of how humans interact with the natural world through photography and video.
More than an invitation for participants to showcase compelling narratives through photography and video, the PhotoVogue Global Open Call 2024 also promotes reflection on a compassionate coexistence with nature. As stewards of the Earth, humans hold a responsibility to safeguard biodiversity in finding better ways to coexist with the diverse species in it. Fostering a healthy relationship with the natural world through compassion for the environment is essential to maintaining the delicate balance of the ecosystem. This is the foundational premise of the PhotoVogue Global Open Call 2024, guided by Mahatma Gandhi’s principle: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
As the global awareness of environmental issues increases, so does the urgency to address issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and habitat destruction. With the theme “Tree of Life: A Love Letter to Nature,” this year’s PhotoVogue Global Open Call is an opportunity for artists worldwide to express their unique ideas and perspectives about the interconnectedness of humans, animals, and nature through photography and video. The theme allows endless possibilities: from documentary images of wildlife in their natural habitats, to zoning in on the impact of human activities on the ecosystem, to lensing the roles of animals and nature in human lives and culture. Participants are invited to interpret the theme creatively using visual storytelling and engage in an important dialogue about protecting and preserving the natural world.
Supported by all 27 editions of Vogue worldwide, this year’s Open Call provides participants with the chance to showcase their art at the 2024 PhotoVogue Festival in Milan and potentially in an upcoming issue of Vogue. Two artists with the most compelling work will be awarded with a $5,000 grant each for their artistic pursuits, and the opportunity to engage in one-on-one virtual sessions with industry professionals to further enrich their work.
The jury for this year’s Open Call ensures a global, inclusive, and diverse perspective, including professionals within Condé Nast across different editions of Vogue, as well as artists, creatives, and various individuals involved in environmental preservation initiatives and organizations. Joining the jury for the Global Open Call are Vogue Philippines Editor-in-chief, Bea Valdes, and Vogue Philippines Art Director, Jann Pascua.
Interested participants can submit their entries on Picter from February 15th until midnight on April 29th, 2024. The submission to the PhotoVogue Global Open Call 2024 is free of charge, and individuals aged 18 and older are welcome to participate regardless of prior involvement in past Open Calls and the Local Open Call, provided they submit a different project.
