The second collaboration between the fashion house and the artist is proving to be an international hit.
Luxury French fashion house Louis Vuitton made waves across the internet when they announced a second collaboration with the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. The highly anticipated collection was heralded as one of Louis Vuitton’s biggest ever, with the collaboration spanning every single one of the brand’s product categories.
Everything from women’s wear to men’s wear, bags to shoes, and everything in between has been artfully injected with the eccentric artist’s signature polka dots and welcomed into her fantastical universe of bright patterns and infinity mirrors.
Kusama’s motifs are bringing new life to wardrobe staples like denim jackets and shorts, button-down blouses, and cropped knits while adding some flare to more statement pieces like silver mini dresses and three-piece monochromatic ensembles.
Kusama, who has been touted as “one of the most important living artists to come out of Japan” and the “most successful living female artist” often uses her work to invite viewers into her mind. The 93-year-old’s synesthetic and utterly immersive exhibitions continue to pave the way for the next generations of art, just as she has always done in the past.
Since the new collaboration’s release early this January, celebrities from all across the world have leaped at the opportunity to own a piece of Kusama’s psychedelic world. The collection’s polka-dotted bags have most notably been spotted on the arms of stars like Cate Blanchett, Squid Game actress Jung Hoyeon, and even Queen Rania of Jordan.
Local big names have since shared snaps of their newly acquired pieces over the past week. Actress and recent Vogue Philippines cover girl Anne Curtis revealed her haul of polka-dotted packages waiting to be unboxed. At the same time, fashion fiend and entrepreneur Heart Evangelista posed artfully beside her black and yellow Alma BB bag.
The dots have also been spotted on the likes of social media personalities and models Miranda Kerr, Stephanie Giesinger, and Paola Locatelli, as well as on K-pop idols HyunA, Taeyeon, Nayeon, and Yuta.
