Over the years, the supermodel has experimented with a variety of different themes and looks.

As a seven-time attendee of the Met Gala, it’s safe to say that Gigi Hadid knows her way around the event’s red carpet by now. Since attending her first Met in 2015, the supermodel has pulled off a variety of drastically-different themes along the way—from campy to futuristic. So, ahead of this year’s grand soirée, occurring on May 1, Vogue is looking back on all of Hadid’s Met Gala best red carpet looks.

Hadid’s Met Gala fashion journey began back in 2015, when she attended the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme in a red DVF gown. The design was complete with a plunging neckline and high slit. A year later, for “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” she switched it up in a space-age Tommy Hilfiger dress, finished with a spangled corset for a dash of extraterrestrial glamour. (She posed side-by-side with then-boyfriend Zayn Malik, who wore a black Versace suit with silver armor detailing on the sleeves).

As the years have gone on, Hadid’s Met looks have gotten even more elaborate and theatrical. For 2017’s “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between” theme, for instance, she wore a champagne-colored Tommy Hilfiger gown with an asymmetrical tulle train. One of her most glamorous moments came in 2018 for the “Heavenly Bodies” exhibition, where she sported a stained glass window-inspired gown by Versace that looked like a true piece of art.

More recently, Hadid nailed the camp theme in 2019 by wearing a Michael Kors Collection ensemble that consisted of a silvery jumpsuit with a matching cape, boots, and headpiece. In 2021, she hit the red carpet in a strapless gown by Prada, complete with a back slit and leather opera gloves—a look that was equal parts timeless and super modern. Last year, she opted for a puffer coat-inspired gown in crimson red that was custom-designed by Donatella Versace.

Ahead of the 2023 Met Gala, it’s clear that Hadid will once again bring a memorable look with her on the step and repeat—though based on her roster of ensembles thus far, it will be hard to predict exactly what she will sport. The model has been a true master of keeping us guessing and experimenting with a variety of different fashion identities—a refreshing approach that reminds one what the Met is truly all about!
