As fashion and technology collide, the world is offered new ways to enjoy couture.

Blockchain technology has been an increasingly popular topic in the Philippines since the pandemic. Created by the anonymous Satoshi Nakamoto, it is the technology responsible for making cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and blockchain-based games like Axie Infinity exist. And now, through Philippine Blockchain Week (PBW), it is being integrated into a culture, art, and fashion.

Chezka Gonzales, one of PBW’s Convenors in charge of organization and planning, says, “Philippine Blockchain Week isn’t just about technology–it’s about showcasing how the Blockchain can complement creative professionals at the top of their field.” This sentiment is echoed in the week-long event’s schedule, which will have conference talks, workshops, interactive exhibits, competitions, awards, and of course, the Philippines’ first-ever Metaverse Fashion Gala.

Michael Cinco, the celebrated Dubai-based Filipino designer whose work has been worn by Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna, is behind the upcoming Metaverse Gala. Collectors will be treated to an array of Cinco’s signature designs, which will be shown in the physical and Metaverse fashion show simultaneously. While the models sashay down the catwalk at the physical show, their respective avatars will walk the Metaverse runway in the same looks.

Fashion collectors will also be able to take home their chosen pieces from the show. Through an exclusive pre-sale, the actual gowns will be available for purchase along with the special edition digital collectibles. PBW delegates will also have access to an exhibit of Michael Cinco gowns, allowing fashion fans to have a closer look at the intricate details of Cinco’s distinctive style.

Always looking forward when it comes to fashion, it is no surprise that Cinco accepted the partnership. “Fashion has always been about redefining barriers, and right now, there’s no bigger barrier than taking what’s physical into the digital,” he says. “I’m excited to be partnering with PBW and even more excited for everyone to see what we have planned.”
