Ahead of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup taking place this August in Barcelona, the Maison takes its Cruise 2025 collection to the Catalan capital.
After wrapping up a spellbinding pre-fall show in Shanghai, Louis Vuitton has now set its sights on Barcelona as the destination for its Cruise 2025 show. The decision comes with an announcement of a unique collaboration between the city and the Maison, including the staging of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup and the Louis Vuitton Cup qualifying session.
The America’s Cup is the oldest international sporting trophy in the world for international yacht racing. This year, it will take place between August and October 2024 in Barcelona, with the racecourse just outside the Port Vell breakwaters. Ahead of the festivities, Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière will stage his Cruise 2025 collection in the city’s Park Güell, an idyllic park lined with colorful mosaic and free-flowing organic lines—just the opposite of what we saw of the fluorescent-lit linoleum flooring of his runway at the Long Museum in Shanghai.
Perhaps there will be connections made to a heritage that can be traced back to the Catalan capital, when the Maison participated in the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition and Louis Vuitton’s son Georges Vuitton was awarded a grand prize for his toiletry cases. In any case, if there’s anything we’ve learned from any of Ghesquière’s past collections, it’s that there is little we can expect other than a newness that transcends, steeped in perennial Vuitton house codes.
