3 Ways To Wear Statement Jewelry This Holiday Season

DiaGold Brand Ambassador Pia Wurtzbach in Francis Libiran

Take cues from DiaGold’s most recent fashion show on how to sparkle this Christmas.

‘Tis the season for holiday shopping, for others and ourselves. And what better way to feel special than to gift ourselves jewelry—the sparklier the better. Some of the Philippines’ best fashion designers gave a lesson or two in styling enchanting, bedazzled pieces. In collaboration with DiaGold, a heritage luxury jewelry brand since 1967, Filipino designers including Joey Samson, Michael Leyva, and Jun Escario created elegant and festive ensembles to match the glistening baubles that graced the runway at a recent fashion show held in Shangri-La The Fort.

With the season fast approaching, take cues from local fashion veterans on how to adorn your body with luscious stones and sparkle in style.

For those who want a focal piece at celebrations this season, consider an oversized pendant necklace, elevated by the most precious of gems. At the show, designer Michael Leyva paired an already vivid magenta dress with an equally vibrant sapphire teardrop stone, encrusted with diamonds. Cop the look by wearing a bold dress with a different-colored jewel. For a more subdued ensemble, let the gemstone take centerstage by pairing it with a more muted tones.

For a more effortless look, consider wearing a medallion with a longer chain. Joey Samson leaned into the enlarged lone medallion, elevating a classic button-down outfit. Whether you opt for a teardrop jewel or a more exaggerated artful piece, a massive stone is sure to turn heads.

More Is More

If scene-stealing is more your speed, consider accessorizing in rare gemstone sets that amp up the drama at any soirée. Drop earrings encrusted with yellow sapphires? Pair it with the same maximalist necklace. Better yet, pair a wash of diamonds with even more of them, just like Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach in her magnificent diamond set to match her Francis Libiran gown.

For a more pared-back look, take cues from Jun Escario’s ensemble and pair opulent diamond-encrusted sapphires with a more subdued, structured silhouette in neutral tones. Wear the set to attend a more formal gathering or to host an elegant Thanksgiving dinner.

Lariat necklaces are intrinsically striking. A bejeweled one? Even more so. These enchanting Y-necklaces are best paired with simpler silhouettes like slip dresses or plunging necklines to really draw the viewer’s eye to the statement shape. Though if you prefer a more show-stopping approach, study Cary Santiago’s runway look and pair a decadent emerald lariat necklace with an equally eye-catching number for full-scale glamour.
