The Princess of Wales Brings Royal Glamour to the BAFTAs in Sleek Opera Gloves

Despite only attending the BAFTAs four times since her 2011 nuptials, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales has, inevitably, made headlines on each and every red carpet. For the 2023 ceremony—held at the Royal Festival Hall—Kate continued her recent trend of recycling pieces from her considerable personal archive, stepping out at the Southbank Centre in the same one-shouldered Alexander McQueen gown she wore to the 2019 event, albeit with cascading draping added at the shoulder.

Further adding to the glamorous effect of the monochrome look: a pair of shoulder-length gloves. Of course, the Regency-era accessory has become a celebrity favorite over the last few years, with numerous designers putting their own spin on the ladylike style at the spring 2023 shows—see Simone Rocha’s frilly, pearl-studded iterationsDior’s cut-out designs, and Bottega Veneta’s scarlet leather “floral” creations. Kate, as ever, kept things classic in sleek, plain black.

A more divisive element of the Princess’s look for the evening? Her choice of jewelry. In lieu of bringing something out of the vault, the royal turned to high-street favorite Zara for her earrings. The cascading gold design is studded with rhinestones, and retails for just $27.90.
