Actor Lily-Rose Depp is certainly no stranger to Hollywood’s red carpet scene, but at last night’s 2025 Oscars, the star marked her very first time attending the ceremony. Last evening, Depp was on hand as a presenter, where she introduced the Best Costume Design award; It just so happens that her own film, Nosferatu, was nominated in the category, thanks to the intricate costuming work of Linda Muir. “I’m thrilled to be able to be there to support the incredible nominees from our film Nosferatu,” Depp tells Vogue. “[Costume design is] an aspect of filmmaking that I love so much. I am endlessly in awe of Linda Muir and her incomparable work. I also grew up watching the Oscars every year without fail, which is another reason why I was so excited to be attending. It feels surreal!”
Given it was such a milestone moment to be attending the Oscars as a first-timer, the star was sure to bring a glamorous look with her to the occasion. As a longtime face of Chanel, Depp looked to the French fashion house for her custom design. She wore a Chanel Couture black floral lace halter dress complete with a peplum, all embroidered with black sequins, crystals, and pearls. “My wonderful stylist Spencer Singer and I really wanted to go classic, pure old Hollywood glamour for this special night. Specifically channeling Marilyn Monroe, Veronica Lake, and all our favorite Hollywood starlets,” says Depp of the inspiration. “We wanted the dress to feel true to that inspiration, but also quintessentially Chanel haute couture.”

The design was actually inspired by an archival dress Depp saw in Chanel’s spring 1995 couture collection. It took 515 hours of work to complete, and around 191,000 embroidery elements were used in the making of the dress. “Something that feels extra special about it is that it’s made of the same lace that Marilyn Monroe herself once wore in white back in 1953 to the How to Marry a Millionaire premiere,” says Depp. “I also love the special embroidery and detailing, it’s so beautiful.” The star finished it with Chanel High Jewelry pieces, including the Motif Russe necklace and bracelet made with 18-karat white gold and diamonds.

While Depp has worn many incredible Chanel designs over the years, the star adds that her Oscars debut proved to be one of her most poignant fashion moments yet. “Something that makes this dress extra special and exciting is that it’s the first time Spencer and I have gotten to collaborate with Chanel in creating something completely custom,” says Depp. “It’s been a dream working with the incredible Chanel team to make something that truly turned out like an absolute dream come true.” Her red carpet look wasn’t her only major Chanel statement of the night, either: Depp also had an equally-chic frock planned for the after-party. “How could I miss an opportunity to wear yet another fabulous Chanel look,” says Depp.
