Chappell Roan was nearly naked in Manhattan (well, Queens) last week, when she performed at Gov Ball dressed as a sexed-up version of the Statue of Liberty herself.
Your favorite artist’s favorite artist hit the stage covered from head to toe in green body paint the color of patinated copper, and covered her signature red curls with a wig to match (featuring the classic spiked crown). But when she emerged from an oversized apple smoking a comically oversized joint, it was safe to say that Chappell Roan was no ordinary Lady Liberty.
Styled by Genesis Webb, the singer got kinky in a strapless latex top, and a skirt made of strips of studded latex over an assless underskirt from Monique Fei. While the real Lady Liberty wears a stola, Chappell’s assless chaps iteration would make even the statue herself blush. She kept the back of her black and green skirt open, showing off her derriere covered only by a thong the same color as her body paint. Finally, in keeping with her Midwest Princess roots, she added a pair of light green cowboy boots.
For someone with a song called “My Kink Is Karma,” it’s no surprise to see Chappell Roan donning fetishware. (In fact, she borrows heavily from drag and kink in her performance looks.) Between her litany of pop bangers and her no-holds-barred approach to fashion, it’s clear that Chappell Roan is a pop superstar in the making.
